Regional Selection

2023 – 2024

BV Region Sides Championships   Sat & Sun 13th & 14th January, 2024
Held in the Ballarat Region

This year the Region Sides Championships will be held in Ballarat.  
Geelong Bowls Region’s Women’s squad is in the Gold Tier (having won Silver last year) and will play at Sebastopol Bowling Club.  The Men’s squad in is the Silver Tier and will play at Central Wendouree Bowling Club.

Play will be 3 games of 15 ends ( 2.5 hr time limit) round robin in two sections in each of the Gold and Silver competitions.  Winners of the two sections in Gold and the two sections in Silver will play in the  Finals on Sunday morning.

  • SUN 26th Nov, 2023 – Geelong BR vs West Coast BR practice match pre Region Sides C’Ship at Colac 
  • Sat/Sun 13th & 14th Jan, 2024 – Region Sides Championships.  Women’s squad of 12 in Gold Section at Sebastopol BC.  Men’s squad of 12 in Silver Section at Central Wendouree BC

Geelong Bowls Region v West Coast Bowls Region Practice Match
Sunday 26th November, 2023
Venue:  Colac Bowls Club by the Lake, Cnr Moore & Armstrong Sts, Colac

As a lead up to the Region Sides Championship, Geelong have again been invited to play against West Coast Bowls Region.  GBR will selected a Men’s squad of 16 players and a Women’s squad of 16 players.

Provincial Championships Shield
Sunday 19th November, 2023
Venue:  Sebastopol Bowling Club

Geelong Bowls Region select 6 rinks of 4 men squad and 4 rinks of 4 women squad to compete in the annual Provincial Championships.  The competition, held in the Ballarat Region this year at Sebastopol BC, is between Geelong BR, Ballarat Highlands BR, Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields BR and normally, Wimmera BR who can’t participate this year.

Congratulations to those selected to represent GBR.   The Women, playing their first Provincials after the decision to include women’s squads, finished third with 10 overall points and 8 shots up.  A great effort with two games of the twelve only posting a 1 shot loss – so close to achieving the 4 extra shots needed to win.  Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields Bowls Region ran second with 12 points and 23 shots up, with host Region, Ballarat Highlands taking the shield with 14 points and -31 shots.  Well done to them.

The Men’s squad also finished third, a bit further off the pace with 14 points and -46 shots.  Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields took second with 19 points and 10 shots up.  Taking the clean sweep, Ballarat Highlands won with 21 points and 36 shots up.

Next year will hosted by Bendigo.

Women’s Webster/Page Shields
Sunday 29th October, 2023 
Venue:  Victoria Bowls Club 

Geelong Bowls Region played Ballarat Highlands Bowls Region at Victoria Bowls Club on Sunday 29th October 2023.  Each playing 6 rinks of Fours the Valerie Page Shield was contested first in the morning 15 ends with Ballarat retaining the shield 91-87.  In the afternoon’s 15 ends, Geelong were successful in again securing the Elaine Webster Shield 96-74. 

Playing alongside the Men’s Whykes Shield squad, an enjoyable day was had by all, with thanks for the hospitality of the host club Victoria BC.

Best GBR Womens rinks was Justine Moller, Jill Fry, Di Roberts & Sue Collins (s).

Men’s Whykes Shield
Sunday 29th October, 2023

GBR Men’s Squad of 24 played 2 games of 15 ends for the Whykes Shield.  Having won the first game overall 85-77, it was a close match for the shield, with Geelong pulling away to post another win in the second games 85-81.  Well done to all.
