Lazarus Community Centre Donation

At Geelong Bowls Region’s Annual General Meeting last night 22nd May, 2023, President Michael Kelly presented Lazarus with a sizable cheque for $7810.00.  This was the second year that Lazarus has been chosen an GBR’s charity for the season, on learning of the service they provide to locals.

One of the founding members Michael Nolan and Centre Manager Jade Hamilton were present to receive the donation which was the amount collected from GBR clubs and the GBR Board.

Located at 202 Myers Street in the Old Geelong Gaol Museum, Lazarus welcomes all who are living rough or in need.  Lazarus is a place for people to feel safe and welcome. Somewhere where they can take a shower, wash and dry their clothes, have a light lunch, participate in activities, meet with volunteers and receive support from specialist homelessness staff.

Occupying what was originally the warden’s rooms, they are looking to move to another part of the building with much bigger & more equipped facilities which has been promised to them.

Outside they have a small vegetable garden as well as the seating area where meals are served.

Michael Nolan was thrilled to receive the amount and sends his sincere thanks to the Geelong bowlers for their kindness and generosity and was eager to put the donation to good use.   He advised that this last year the Geelong area has been one of the fastest growing areas of people in need.
