Regional Selection 2022 – 2023

Men & Women’s Region Championships were held at Moama Bowling Club and Echuca Bowls Club on 26th to 28th May, 2023

Bowls Vic undertook a review of all events and will implement changes to the Region Championships including:

  • Move to a tiered Gold and Silver system, using rankings from previous 2 events to determine placings. 8 sides per tier
  • Top 2 sides in Gold to playoff for the Region Sides Title
  • Further changes for 2024 will be to hold the event in January and have a 2 day event-3 sectional games on Sat with finals on Sun.

Geelong Bowls Region v West Coast Bowls Region Practice Match
Sunday 2nd April, 2023   at   Colac Bowls Club by the Lake, Cnr Moore & Armstrong Sts, Colac

As a lead up to the Region Sides Championship, Geelong have been invited to play against West Coast Region.  GBR will selected a Men’s squad of 16 players and a Women’s squad of 16 players.

Men’s Provincial Shield
Sunday 5th February, 2023     at    Coughlin Park Bowls Club, 14 Hamilton Street, Horsham
(carpark entry 49 Robinson Street)

Geelong Bowls Region play against Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields Bowls Region, Wimmera Bowls Region and Ballarat Highlands Bowls Region, each fielding 6 teams of four.  3 rounds of 15 ends are played in a Round Robin format.

Women’s Webster/Page Shields

Geelong Bowls Region play against Ballarat Highlands Region in conjunction with the Men’s Whykes Shield.

UPDATE:  GBR Women’s squad retained the Elaine Webster shield, winning the second game overall 86-75.  They just missed out on the Valerie Page Shield in the first game with Ballarat Highlands winning overall 87-78.   Best overall GBR rink was Kerry Gooley (s), Wilma Atkins, Belinda Jeffs & Maddie Jacobs.  Congratulations to all players selected.

Men’s Whykes Shield
Sunday 22nd January, 2023     at    Belmont Bowls Club

GBR Men’s Selection Committee have released updated selection for Whykes Shield day.  Full details >here   (doc. updated 18/01/2023)

UPDATE:  GBR Men’s squad retained the Whykes Family Shield by defeating Ballarat Highlands Bowls Region 200-150 composite score over two games.  All games over the two rounds were very close in scores including a number of ties, with the exception of GBR’s best rink Adam Martin(s), Gary Warren, Wayne Frith & Paul Lawrence who accounted for 34 of the overall shots up.  Well done to everyone.
